There exist 3 different types of what we know as floor jacks. Two of them are used in home repair and business and the last one is often used by auto mechanics. Despite of the same name, their usage is totally different.

A floor jack is often used to support walls of a house when one needs to strengthen foundation walls or replace joists. After the repair is done, the house is lowered to its original level and the floor jack is removed from the construction.

Another type of a floor jack which is used in home repair is a solid metal pole with a flat end. This floor jack should be placed under the main beam of a house and carefully secured. It's made to prevent sagging and support joists of the house. Rotting or sagging floors will eventually collapse, so you should pay attention to this.

The other type of floor jacks is used for cable and telephone adaptors. It has a user-friendly built-in phone plug-in and a data plug-in port. It's used in two ways: by sinking it into the flooring or by mounting in the place where a wall and the floor meet. All you have to do to get it working is to connect it to existing phone or data wiring inside the house.

For lifting SUVs, trucks and cars we usually use automotive floor jacks. You should place the automotive floor jack under the car to use it. This type of floor jacks can lift up to 20 tons of weight. Anyone can lift huge weights with ease with the help of the long arm which extends from the body of the jack. You will need this when you have to change or remove tires or check exhaust pipes, or anything else. However, in car repair shops hydraulic lifts are used more often.
